Well, in 4 to 5 years we will be.
Not to sound like a broken record, but Yosemite had a huge impact on me. The step we took today (that we really started immediately after our return from Yosemite) is a direct result of that impact.
Jason and I officially own investment property (I love the way that sounds
) just outside of our little town! We knew we were hitting a financial crossroads this fall, and we had been planning on moving forward with some big projects on our current home – namely a new driveway and a garage. We knew this would be a huge investment, one that we were prepared to start saving for in order to complete the projects next summer.
To put this in perspective, I have been dreaming of this project for almost four years. I have been borderline obsessed with driveways and garages
.
On the plane as we were headed home from Yosemite, however, it suddenly hit me – I don’t want a garage anymore. I want to move us closer to our ultimate dream – one that we figured would be 10, 15, 20 years down the road. The dream: to build a home out in the country. The soul-searching power of Yosemite made me seriously question why we would put our true dream on hold when we could be taking steps NOW to get us there sooner?
Conveniently, Jason was having the same thoughts.
So a week after returning from out west, we started looking for property. We had no intention of actually buying anything now – we just wanted to get a sense of what was out there. Then we found exactly what we both wanted. We made an offer which was accepted in early July, and today was closing day.

Bench left behind by the previous owners. Sweet.

We’re not losing the lot line again.

Don’t even think about going out there without this right now.
This path will be brining a whole new element to First Class Great Outdoors, one that I am so excited to start exploring!
Now excuse me while I go enjoy some celebratory cake
.
