So this last week, I had to travel to Disney World for work…let the groaning commence
. Seriously, I’m my university’s primary liaison to the Disney College Program and I was asked to travel down to Florida to visit 12 of our students there. Don’t hate.
First things first: Visiting Disney made me long for Yosemite or any “real” vacation spot for that matter. I must admit, I’m not a Disney World kind of person. It’s just not my gig, even more so after visiting Yosemite.
More importantly, though, this little trip indicated just how out of shape Jason and I are. And now I’m more nervous about our High Sierra Camp trip which is only four months away
. One full day of walking around the Disney World parks left me with torn up feet, legs of jello, and an overall feeling of exhaustion. It was not pretty.
I think I’ve finally hit the breaking point that I’ve needed to hit. I have been miserable for months now, and I’m unhappy with how I look and feel. What’s more important is that I want to have an amazing time in Yosemite this summer, and this is going to be hard to do if I’m physically in pain throughout the trip.
Lucky for me, I signed up for the Nicolet Bay 5K in Door County the first weekend in May. Training started for me this last week – although I did cancel my Thursday run on account of my Disney “injuries”
.
I’m following Hal Higdon’s Novice 5K training program to prepare for this race. Mondays and Wednesdays are either rest days or run/walk days. Instead, I’m going to include my new barre workout DVD as cross-training those two days. So here’s the week ahead for me:
Monday: Booty Barre workout
Tuesday: 1.75 mile run
Wednesday: Booty Barre workout
Thursday: 1.5 mile run
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 1.75 mile run
Sunday: 35 minute walk
On top of my 5K training, I’m really ready to overhaul my eating habits. Certain foods routinely make me sick, but for some stupid reason I keep eating them.
I’m going to take this day by day, week by week…
Question…
How are your health goals going?
