Product Review: Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm

1 Flares 1 Flares ×

I have a confession: I am obsessed with beauty products.

Earlier this fall, I spent an afternoon cleaning out my closet. The sheer amount of lotions, half-used bottle of perfume, and random make-up samples was out of control. I was proud of myself that day – I actually tossed the vast majority of my lingering product stash.

I don’t know what it is, but buying a new tube of lip gloss, a new bottle of nail polish, or a new type of hand lotion just feels good. While I have curbed my buying habits substantially over the years, I still like to try new products. Maybe it’s just that I like to look pretty¬† ūüôā

One of my latest finds is Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm. I hadn’t found a lip gloss or balm that I loved in quite some time. I was partially sucked in by the packaging. Then I really looked at the color options, and I saw a lot of them that I liked. My only concerns: Would the color really look that good when applied? Would the color last? How balm-like would it be?

My concerns were smashed on the first use. It’s not a super heavy balm, and it’s very smooth when applied. There’s no¬†sacrifice¬†of moisture for color. Actually, this balm moisturizes better than most products I’ve tried recently. The addition of¬†Shea¬†Butter might be to thank.

As for the color, it’s beautiful. It is pretty darn true to what you see on the packaging. The color lasts a decent amount of time – not forever, but long enough. The first tube I bought was in Pink Blossom. It’s a pretty pink, but it turned out to be a little darker on my lips than the packaging had me believe.

I wound up buying a tube in Honeysuckle (above), which I assumed would be lighter in color, and I am obsessed! It actually reminds me of my very favorite lip tint ever, possibly the first lip color I ever wore. It was from Cover Girl and I was so sad when it was discontinued. But I digress…

Just a hint of color and a little shimmer, at least with the Honeysuckle. (I totally feel like these are infomercial before/after pictures, where the after looks better because the person is actually smiling ūüėČ ¬†)

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm also comes in Tiger Lilly, Hibiscus, Red Dahlia, and Rose. It retails for $7.00 and can be found in most drugstores. I picked mine up at Walgreens.

Burt’s Bees is one of the companies whose products I’ve been gravitating towards as I’ve been “greening” my beauty routine. I appreciate their commitment to using natural ingredients (the Tinted Lip Balm is 100% natural) and the eco-friendly packaging. I feel good using their products, and it’s made all the better when they deliver in the ways I want them to.
